Abstract

Asynchronous, digital teaching and learning pose new challenges for participation: fewer fixed contact phases and unsupervised learning spaces require a different understanding of participation. The SDG Campus shows that students in asynchronous courses can actively take responsibility and work co-creatively using digital tools (forums, wikis, feedback tools). However, a lack of synchronisation makes moderation more difficult, can lead to a loss of motivation, and requires clear didactic concepts that promote collaboration and feedback. Participation here means above all enabling students to be self-determined and involving them in course design and learning processes. Future research could use AI-supported systems to further strengthen asynchronous learning processes and peer feedback.
