Abstract
In technical degree programmes, theoretical foundation courses often pose a particular challenge for students. For this purpose, the author developed a coaching-oriented teaching concept at HAW Hamburg that focuses on active support, self-determination and intrinsic motivation. The focus is on collaborative work, a feedback culture and a points system that does not reward the correctness of contributions, but rather the active participation and reflection of students and allows freedom in the choice of solutions used. Initial experiences show a high level of learning success and a positive response from students without lowering the requirements. The concept offers promising approaches for improving learning success in other courses as well.
